Brown Tones Southwestern & Western Area Rugs

Jenny Norris was the designer of this library. The wallpaper is a woody, black and white combination. Layered with pillows in Southwestern style and a flokati blanket, the midcentury modern chaise creates a soft, inviting spot.

Choose a look that is part off-the grid camping, part landscaped yard. For fireside lounging, you can choose to use Adirondack chairs that are low-slung and easy-to-use. Layered fabrics and pillows will bring the inside to the outside, giving guests something to cuddle up with in cool evenings. You can also recreate the feeling of a campfire with a grill that is deck-appropriate. Serve chili or cornbread with hot chocolate. A campfire is incomplete without s'mores. You can even roast marshmallows on a stove, even if your backyard isn't big enough.

Start setting the tone from the moment you open the front door. An entryway should be clean but not too neat. A color palette that reflects the landscape is best: dusty reds and blues mixed with warm browns.

In the 1700s and 1800s, Hudson Bay striped blankets were sold throughout the U.S. and Canada. They're mixed in with modern and industrial elements to create a contemporary version of the classic style. The unique Western character of the cowhide rug is layered over the carpeting.

Western Influence Rugs

Whitewashing the ceiling of the vaulted wooden structure in this California living area will help bounce the natural sunlight and allow bright, joyful colors to shine through the furniture and rug. Junk Gypsies injected bohemian spirit into this treehouse living-room with a glitter-covered carnival stella, a quirky Edison lamp, and colorful pillows.

Studio Revolution was tasked with transforming an unfinished loft into a spacious master bedroom in a San Francisco condo's Potrero Hill. A chevron-patterned wood frame creates an inviting feature wall. The rustic design is offset by the clean lines of Studio Revolution's leather headboard, contemporary nightstands, and the wallpaper covering its closet wall. The master bedroom is brightened by a white wall, white bed linens and a white headboard. The bed is adorned with patterns of throw pillows, which are layered with white pillows. This gives the room a bohemian feel. Mounted gold sconces frame an ocean photograph printed in plexiglass.
